“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

— Albert Einstein

Becoming a leader – How many people’s lives are affected by your daily decisions?

If you make ONE decision that impacts others, here is some food for thought.

Leadership is not a choice. At one point or many in life, we will be in a position where we are leading others. Beyond that, I’ve been challenged that to achieve our purpose; we need to step up and look for more opportunities to lead.

But today, I will dedicate more to those with a “formal” leadership position; you are a manager of people in a company, you founded a company and are now leading, or your perspective on someone else’s work and effort has an effect.

From this perspective, for me being a leader is a privilege. And we need to challenge with all we have that we can SERVE in the best way possible to those impacted.

With many new businesses, with new managers, and without a formal (although it’s changing) education to be a leader, I wanted to share my perspective, tools, and best experience with a leader.

I want to tell you a story. It’s a good one, and I love it. It’s an inspiration for me, and it is part of what I hope to accomplish with the business I founded, the organization that I am part of, and with my community.

This Inspirational Story About a True Leader Will Change Your Life

Are you the best leader you could possibly be?

“Leadership is a fundamental part of the spiritual work we came into the world to do and the path to true fulfillment.” David Zakin

My teacher and I share a conversation that I want to share with you.

Leadership is all about being of service.

I have been fortunate to work with some great managers and leaders, but the best was someone who did something that no other manager or leader had ever done: She made an impact. She influenced me greatly, and she helped me grow.

The difference was that she had no hidden agenda. If I screwed up, she didn’t hesitate to tell me. She wasn’t my friend–even if I was her friend–but she was always on my side. Even if she had to be aware that she might think differently than me, she even defended me if needed when other leaders had a different perspective. And even I will say this, knowing that the way I did things was not mature at all. But that is a great leader.

They don’t see you just for who you are; they see you for your potential and help you get together.

Truthfully, being a leader is hard work. You have to care about everyone on your team and ruthlessly promote greatness in every one of them. But this isn’t just something they do out of the goodness of their hearts–you should want to help them become better at what they do. The flip side of this is that you should also hold yourself to a higher standard so that you can be a better leader.
